A Slow and Sunny 7 Days in Sicily with Friends and Kids

Why Visit Sicily for a Relaxing Family Holiday?

There’s something timeless and magical about Sicily. With its sun-drenched hills, ancient landscapes, and easy rhythm of life, it’s the perfect place to switch off and unwind. For this trip, we opted for a weeklong stay in a peaceful agriturismo, surrounded by nature — joined by a few good friends and our kids. No pressure, no jam-packed itinerary — just quality time, sunshine, and space to breathe.

Day 1 – Relaxing by the Pool

After arriving and unpacking, we did exactly what we needed: nothing.

The agriturismo’s pool became our instant favorite hangout. The kids splashed and played while the adults lounged under olive trees with books, coffee, and laughter. It felt like Sicily was already working its magic on us.

Day 2 – Day Trip to Lago Maulazzo and Cristo Il Signore della Montagna

We drove into the beautiful Parco dei Nebrodi, winding through mountain roads and stopping at a small café nestled in the woods.

A short stroll through the forest around the café was a lovely way to take in the shade, birdsong, and earthy pine scent — a refreshing contrast to the summer heat.

Lago Maulazzo itself was serene — a gentle, glassy lake surrounded by greenery. The kids roamed freely, and we soaked in the stillness.

Before reaching the lake, we stopped at Cristo Il Signore della Montagna, a peaceful spot with panoramic views and a quiet, reflective atmosphere.

– Lago Maulazzo

Day 3 – Another Pool Day

Another slow and easy day — just how we like it.

The kids never tired of the water, and the adults took turns floating, chatting, or napping. Between swims and suncream, we shared long lunches and Sicilian snacks.

A local bottle of wine may have made an appearance too!

Day 4 – Visiting Mount Etna

We set off for our one “big” outing of the trip — a day trip to Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano.

The drive was scenic, and once there, we marveled at the dramatic volcanic landscapes shaped by centuries of eruptions.

The kids were fascinated (and slightly spooked) by the black lava rocks, and the cooler mountain air gave us a pleasant break from the summer sun.

Highlights:
– Etna

Days 5 to 7 – Poolside Fun and Agriturismo Life

The final days were spent soaking up everything we loved about the agriturismo lifestyle.

Mornings by the pool, slow lunches made with local produce, late afternoon games with the kids, and evening chats as the sun dipped below the hills.

No rushing, no screens, no stress — just time together.

Final Thoughts: Why Sicily is Perfect for a Relaxing Holiday

Sicily gave us exactly what we were hoping for — not just a holiday, but a pause. The space to relax, connect with our kids and friends, and enjoy the small things. It reminded us that sometimes the best trips are the simplest ones: good company, beautiful surroundings, and nowhere to be but here.
